Kevin M. Koutsky, M.D.
Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon
After considering following in his father’s footsteps as an attorney, Dr. Kevin M. Koutsky chose to forge his own path and began his pursuit of a career in medicine due to his love of science and his fascination with the intricacies of the human body. He loves working with his hands and has great appreciation for the biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system. Thus he chose the long road to become not only a physician but a highly trained surgeon in the field of orthopaedic and spine surgery.
He began his academic career by earning his medical degree from the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago. He performed his General Surgery Internship and Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Cook County/University of Illinois Hospital. Following the completion of his residency training, he went on to complete a Spine Trauma Fellowship at Northwestern University, Midwest Regional Spinal Cord Injury Care System, under the supervision of one of Chicagoland’s preeminent spinal surgeons.
Dr. Koutsky understands that injury and pain can affect people in very different ways. His philosophy of care reflects that. He works hard to help patients develop a personalized, comprehensive plan of care that takes into account their individual circumstances. His goal is always to work towards helping each patient to achieve or return to an optimal level of functioning. He approaches orthopedic and spine care in the most conservative way possible through listening to a patient’s concerns and needs, quickly and accurately diagnosing the cause of their symptoms, and developing an individualized plan of care. Dr. Koutsky understands that surgical intervention, no matter how small, is always a major decision and is reserved as a last resort when conservative treatment has not been helpful to resolve or improve a patient’s pain or discomfort.
